SCRAP ARTS MUSIC is an earth-friendly, Victoria Canada-based production company that creates spectacular performances suitable for international audiences of all ages. Original music — choreographed to express the energizing power of percussion—is performed on self-made kinetic instruments artfully crafted from industrial scraps.
Co-founded in 1998 by artistic directors Gregory Kozak (musician, instrument creator, composer & choreographer) and Justine Murdy (designer & producer), Scrap Arts Music has performed at prestigious events around the world (including the spectacular Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics, viewed by millions) as an athletic next-generation percussion ensemble, featuring over 145 invented instruments and five extraordinary, virtuosic and innovative drummers.
Using mobile and kinetic instruments to create powerful percussion-based performances suitable for the entire family, Scrap Arts Music proves you can transform “scrap” through the “arts” to create truly amazing “music”.
In 2016, Gregory Kozak was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts “Grant to Musicians” to begin sonic explorations. That same year Justine and Gregory laid the groundwork for an all-new production entitled, CHILDREN OF METROPOLIS by Scrap Arts Music. IMG Artists NYC is the official representative of the company. The international launch of Children of Metropolis is spring 2018 and Scrap Arts Music is now auditioning talented musical performers (M+F) to cast in this all-new production.
Successful candidates must relocate to and be based in Victoria until 2018.
