SAM2 in Schools will tour over 100 schools during the 2014-2015 school season and we couldn’t be more excited!
The autumn sees SAM2 in Schools being performed in gymansiums in: Fort St. John, Dawson City, Chetwyn, Taylor and other northeastern schools; Revelstoke, Golden and schools in the East Kootenays; schools on Saltspring Island and Pender Island; and our new home town of Victoria, as well as other Vancouver Island schools in Courtenay, Comox, Gold River and even Zeballos among others!
SAM2 in Schools is a student-friendly show developed exclusively for gymnasiums by Scrap Arts Music, British Columbia’s internationally-acclaimed invented instrument, power percussion company. This low-tech production introduces students to the athleticism, humor and inventive musicality found in works by Gregory Kozak and Justine Murdy.
In selecting repertoire for SAM2 in Schools, composer and instrument designer Gregory Kozak developed works for three performers who play a variety of idiophones, membranophones and aerophones that are hand-crafted from recycled and salvaged materials.
By turning scrap into art, and arts into music, SAM2 in School is an educational show about transformation. It suggests a new attitude toward tossed-away materials. Best of all, the student participation piece leaves students both energized and inspired.
