ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
"Children of Metropolis" is our latest production featuring entirely original music composed and performed on 145+ instruments crafted by Gregory Kozak, the artistic director of Scrap Arts Music. Despite working on a limited budget during the pandemic, Kozak collaborated with Victoria filmmaker Andrew Struthers to bring to life a captivating, black-and-white, full-length film inspired by Fritz Lang's 1927 cult classic, "Metropolis."
"Children of Metropolis" combines an original and adventurous narrative with a uniquely immersive musical and cinematic experience. Positioned along the edge of the stage in front of the projection screen, our musicians with over 145+ sculptural invented instruments perform live, creating a dynamic, synchronized score that accompanies the film. This family-friendly production offers a captivating experience for all ages.
The Film...
This early draft of “Children of Metropolis” offers a sneak peek at the opening minutes set to our composition "Bughouse." You may notice that some of the buildings bear a striking resemblance to our actual instruments. Through the art of filmmaking, we've transformed these instruments to seamlessly blend into the retro-futuristic landscape of Metropolis. Most of our instruments are ingeniously crafted from recycled scrap metal and plastics, remnants of construction projects.
