ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Children of Metropolis
Our latest production, featuring over 145 original instruments handcrafted by Artistic Director Gregory Kozak.
Amid the challenges of the pandemic, Kozak teamed up with Victoria filmmaker Andrew Struthers to create a full-length, black-and-white film inspired by Fritz Lang’s 1927 classic Metropolis—captivating, adventurous, and occasionally funny.
Live on stage, our musicians perform in front of the projection screen, bringing the film to life with a dynamic score on sculptural, hand-built instruments. The result is a fully immersive musical and cinematic experience that delights audiences of all ages.
The Film...
This early draft of “Children of Metropolis” offers a sneak peek at the opening minutes set to our composition "Bughouse." You may notice that some of the buildings bear a striking resemblance to our actual instruments. Through the art of filmmaking, we've transformed these instruments to seamlessly blend into the retro-futuristic landscape of Metropolis. Most of our instruments are ingeniously crafted from recycled scrap metal and plastics, remnants of construction projects.
