Opportunities at Scrap Arts Music

Performing Arts Management Internship

Scrap Arts Music seeks qualified candidates for its quarterly internship program.

Scrap Arts Music is an original, genre-defying performing arts company that expands on the foundations of traditional and world percussion. It is lead by company co-founders and artistic directors Gregory Kozak and Justine Murdy. With a groundbreaking take on live performance meets material environmentalism, Scrap Arts Music creates its own orchestra, compositions and choreography using materials around us. Imaginative compositions are performed live with over 145 acoustic instruments made by Gregory Kozak. Scrap Arts Music delights in inspiring the next generation with inventive, exciting shows and multifaceted outreach.

This is a 4-6 month (16-24 weeks) position for a minimum of 20 hours of work each week. We are flexible with both the timing of your internship and which days of the week you work – and we offer a $500 stipend per intern period.

We are looking for someone who can work virtually and/or in a small Victoria BC-based office with two tiny dogs, is a team-player, and has a passion for the performing arts. Due to our touring and deadline-oriented schedule, candidates must be organized, personable, and able to work under busy and sometimes stressful conditions. Communication, research and social media skills are desirable for this internship. Candidates with working knowledge of spreadsheets (I.e. Numbers), word processing programs (i.e. Pages), Airtable, video editing software (i.e. Movie), graphics platforms (i.e. Canva) and social media experience (i.e. Instagram and Facebook) are preferred.

You will be exposed to all aspects of the business (based on what time of year your internship is) including: contract negotiations with our company and the venues we tour to; project development from the initial seed of inspiration to premiere date; tour preparations; grant writing; writing project narrative descriptions; filing of international work visas; city, state, and federal tax obligations; international tax and visa obligations; attendance at rehearsals, showings, and performances; creation and maintenance of promotional materials; and maintaining our social networking presence.

Internship duties include executing promotional campaigns; assisting with release and marketing activities; and database and office upkeep. Due to the intimate office setting and intensity of the business, the internship position can build excellent professional skills and gain a breadth of knowledge that goes well beyond the entry-level work involved.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please send a letter of interest and resume to Justine Murdy at Justine at scrapartsmusic dot com.
